South Milford Brass win 3rd place at North of England 2nd Section Regional Championships

The band made the annual trip to Darlington on Saturday 20th March for the North of England Regional Championships.  The test piece was Philip Harper's Kingdom of Dragons,  which was originally commissioned by the Gwent Music Support Services to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Gwent Youth Brass Band with the 4 movements  taking inspiration from four local authorities that provide funding for the Gwent Youth Band – Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen and Newport.

The band consolidated their first season in the 2nd Section with a very good performance which earned a well deserved 3rd place.  Adjudicator Kevin Wadsworth commented that the band could consider themselves unlucky not to qualify for the National Finals.

All the Band would like express their sincere thanks to Richard Wilton who has been our Musical Director for the last 4 ½ years for his drive, enthusiasm and commitment to the Band and wish him every success on his new appointment as MD of Shepherd Building Group Senior Band.

Richard has been instrumental in rebuilding and transforming South Milford Brass from an unregistered to a 2nd Section Band and has led us to considerable contesting success, notably at the North of England Area Contest where we became 4th Section Champions in 2008 and 3rd Section Champions in 2009.

Thanks and best wishes for the future Richard.
