Saturday 29th March 2008 South Milford Brass become North of England 4th Section Champions The band travelled to Darlington on Saturday 29th March for North of England Regional Championships. This year's test piece was Rodney Newton's Four Cities, a symphony in 4 movements entitled London, Paris, Rome and Moscow. The band impressed adjudicator Colin Hardy with a performance which secured them the North of England Championship and a place at the National Finals in Harrogate in September. Principal cornet, Nicky Bond, won the Stan Morris Cup for the Best Principal Cornet Player and Glenn Kilburn picked up the Ralph Bell Memorial Trophy for the Best Euphonium Player. Saturday 15th March 2008 25th Anniversary Concert at 7.30 pm in Snaith Priory We had a brilliant response to our invitations to the anniversary concert. Over 300 past and present associates of the band and their families and came along to celebrate with us. If anyone has any photographs from the evening that we could publish on the website we would love to hear from you. Sunday 18th November 2007 The Band travelled to Malton to compete in the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association's Malton Brass '07 Concert Programme Competition. In a strong field of bands South Milford Brass rounded off a very successful year by winning 2nd place and the Bass Brewing Trophy 1 point behind last year's winners, 3rd Section Stape Silver. The Band also picked up the prize for the Best March with its rendition of Goldcrest and Glenn Kilburn was awarded Best Euphonium prize and the Ray Taylor Cup - well deserved Glenn. Adjudicator Roy Roe commended all the bands for the high standard of playing and for their entertaining programmes. Click here for the full results. Sunday 11th November 2007 South Milford Brass took on Wakefield Metropolitan in the final of the Kippax Band Entertainment Contest 2007. In a very entertaining competition, South Milford gave a strong performance but were narrowly beaten by Wakefield Met who took the title by 188 points to186. Adjudicator Alan Morrison praised both bands for providing excellent programmes. Other winners on the night were Richard Larder of Wakefield Met who was awarded the Norman Morley Memorial Trophy for best instrumentalist in the final, and Neil Greenwood, solo euphonium player with Huddersfield and Ripponden Brass, who won the Fred Muscroft Trophy for best soloist in the first round. Thanks to Kippax Band and their sponsors for a well organised contest and for their hospitality over the last few months. Sunday 9th September 2007 South Milford Brass celebrated a memorable victory over 3rd section Barrow Concert in the 2nd Semi to reach the Final of the Kippax Band Entertainment Contest 2007. It was a well deserved win with a strong all round band performance and excellent solo performances which won the praise of adjudicator Stan Lippeatt - well done everyone! The Band now meet Wakefield Metropolitan Band in the Final on Sunday 11th November. Wakefield Met won the 2nd Section of the areas at Bradford to gain a place in this year's National Finals and gained promotion to the 1st section for 2008 so it promises to be an interesting Final! Sunday 13th May 2007 The Band overcame tough opposition from 2nd Section Dinnington Colliery Band and 3rd Section Dronfield Band to win Heat 4 of the Kippax Band Entertainment Contest 2007. They go on to meet Barrow Concert in the 2nd Semi Final in Kippax band room on Sunday 9th September. Great sound - well played guys. 18th March 2007 After a break of 7 years the Band travelled to the Dolphin Centre in Darlington to take part in the North East of England Area competition. Playing the 4th section test piece, Philip Wilby's The Seasons, the Band came a creditable 5th out of the 10 bands competing. The Band are pictured rehearsing prior to the competition.

Several members of the band attended the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association's Annual Brass and Percussion Workshop at Minsthorpe Conference Centre. They were fortunate to receive tuition and expert guidance from players of the Grimethorpe Colliery (UK Coal) Band who led the workshops and couldn't resist the opportunity to be photographed with the 2006 National Champions' trophy.
April 2006 The Band celebrated the award of an Awards for all Grant of £5000 for the purchase of new instruments and music. 6th November

After a gap of 4 years since last competing the Band won the unregistered band section of the Yorkshire & Humberside Brass Band Association competition at Malton.
September 2005 The Band was delighted to welcome Richard Wilton as their new conductor. Richard, who now plays Eb Bass for Grimethorpe Band, originally started playing tuba with South Milford Brass. Richard said he was "really thrilled" when asked to conduct the band with which he started playing. |
