On Sunday 22nd March South Milford Brass made the annual trip to the Dolphin Centre in Darlington for the North of England Regional Championships competing in the 3rd Section for the first time after being promoted following last year's 4th section win. The test piece this year was Andrew Baker's 'Once and Future King', a symphonic suite based on the Arthurian Legend which comprises 3 movements entitled Tintagel, Lyonesse and Badon Hill. The band were drawn last in the field of 9 bands and gave an impressive performance which secured them the North of England Championship and the Northern Region Challenge shield. Musical Director, Richard Wilton, was awarded The Joe Ireland Trophy for the Winning Conductor. In his remarks adjudicator Richard Evans wrote "It's a joy to listen to this performance. You are outstanding in this section." Congratulations to runners up North Skelton who will join us in representing the North of England in the National Finals in Harrogate on Sunday 27th September and well done to all the other bands who completed in the 3th Section. Many thanks to the North of England Regional Committee for organising a well run contest.
