Areas 2008
South Milford Brass travelled to the Dolphin Centre in Darlington on Saturday 29th March for North of England Regional Championships. This year's test piece, adjudicated by Colin Hardy, was Rodney Newton's Four Cities, a symphony in 4 movements entitled London, Paris, Rome and Moscow. The band were drawn to play 4th and put in an impressive performance which secured them the North of England Championship and the Northern Region Challenge Tribute trophy 3 points ahead of nearest rival Kirkby Lonsdale. Principal cornet, Nicky Bond, won the Stan Morris Cup for the Best Principal Cornet Player and Glenn Kilburn picked up the Ralph Bell Memorial Trophy for the Best Euphonium Player. 3rd place went to Bearpark & Esh Colliery with Marske Brass taking 4th place. Congratulations to Kirkby Lonsdale who will join us in representing the North of England in the National Finals in Harrogate on Saturday 27th September and well done to all the other bands who completed in the 4th Section especially the youngsters of Chester Le Street Riverside Concert who were making their first appearance at the areas - some budding stars of the future there! Many thanks to the North of England Regional Committee for organising a well run contest.
